Rugby and Cricket in the Var

There are many reasons why living in the Var is enjoyable and for sports enthusiasts, the fact that one of the top rugby teams in Europe plays here is certainly one of those. 

Funded by President Mourad Boudjellal’s fortune, Toulon has recruited some of the best players in the world. Of course, the best known of these is Jonny Wilkinson, but others who have worn rouge et noir in recent years include Joe van Niekerk, Victor Matfield, George Gregan, Sonny Bill Williams, Felipe Contepomi, George Smith, Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Carl Hayman and Paul Sackey.  

Gavin Henson has recently joined and Matt Giteau has been recruited for the 2011/12 season.

Stade Mayol is a fairly small stadium and as half the places are taken by season ticket holders, tickets can sometimes be hard to come by. Ticketing information can be found on RCT’s website, but from time to time Simon gets tickets given to him at the last minute.
